Chimney Sweep

According to the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA), there are more than 20,000 chimney fires every year in the United States alone. A dirty chimney typically contains a build-up of creosote, a highly combustible by-product of burning fuels such as unseasoned wood. This raises the risk of fire, leading to injury or even death

The industry standard is to have your fireplace swept once annually, but more if you use it frequently.

RAF Handy Solutions offers a chimney “sweep” service. A sweep is not the same as a chimney “clean”, as the term “clean” suggests that the entire chimney is spotless.

Our chimney sweep service removes stage 1 and 2 creosote deposits from the flue (the tube/chamber that goes up your chimney).

Even though we use aggressive power sweeping tools, sometimes, not all combustible deposits can be used with standard methods.  For example, a tarry hard substance defined as stage 3 glazed creosote fuses to the inner chimney flue wall and can not generally be removed during a standard sweep.

If we conduct a chimney sweep of your fireplace, here’s what we will do:

  • Ensure cleanliness. We’ll cover any nearby furniture and we’ll seal the entrance of your fireplace to minimize the amount of debris that leaves the fireplace. When our job is done, we’ll make sure we vacuum and wipe down the work area so everything is perfectly clean.
  • Observe your fireplace & flue. Using a endoscope and our naked eye, we will take a close look at your heating system before and after the sweep. This will give an indication of the success of the sweeping process.
  • Brush the Inside of your Fireplace & Sweep your Flue. After brushing and cleaning the inside of your fireplace or stove insert, we’ll seal the front of your heating system and then sweep your flue. Watch the following video to get a feel for the process. NOTE: We do not go on your roof to conduct our chimney sweep.
  • Certified Inspection: It is recommended that all heating systems be inspected by a certified technician annually. RAF Handy Solutions is not certified to inspect your heating system. RAF Handy Solutions does not assume any liability for defects, inspection non-compliance, if or how the heating unit is used following our service, as we will only sweep and not inspect the heating system.
